Terranova Corporation has submitted a proposal to demolish a retail building on Miracle Mile and replace it with a hotel, which architects say has a design that is derived from the city’s historic Biltmore Hotel.
Arquitectonica is the architect.
In a submittal package (below), architects claimed that the proposed design for the new building is derived from and makes reference to the proportion and scale of the Biltmore Hotel, which features Mediterranean architecture.
The new hotel building is proposed to have 120 hotel rooms, along with 36,778 square feet of ground floor retail and restaurant space. No parking is proposed, and a waiver would be needed from the city to build without parking spaces.
An existing building that is occupied by retail tenants will be demolished.
The Coral Gables Development Review Committee is scheduled to review the plans on July 26
