Trader Joe’s is now building a new store close to a Metrorail station in Coral Gables.

The new Trader Joe’s store is being built at Gables Station, a mixed-use project located a short distance from the Douglas Road Metrorail station.

Gables Station will include an outdoor section known as the Living Room lined with shops and restaurants.

According to a construction permit application filed with the city of Coral Gables in July and seen by The Next Miami, a total of 16,126 square feet of space is being built out for Trader Joe’s.

News of the store was first reported by Gables Insider.

The Metrorail station will be about a 10-minute walk from the new store. When the Underline is built, that walk should become much more pleasant (the developer is funding construction of the Underline).

There are also permits to build a Life Time Fitness and Graziano’s Restaurant at Gables Station.

Gables Station will include 495 apartments, 125,000 square feet of commercial (with 95,000 of that leased by Life Time), and 977 parking spaces.

One of the three apartment buildings will be run by Ollie, with upscale co-living units

Opening of Gables Station is scheduled for February 2021
